Academy Assistant Professional
Bob started coaching tennis in 1995 with a small group of enthusiastic Snowflake Arizona high school students. In a small town with only one club, they were able to have great practices and challenge ladders. Each spring he would take 28 students to the Scottsdale Princess to watch 3 days of an ATP tournament. One of their star students played #4 for Mesa Community College. In 1999 Bob took a teaching job as an assistant professor of speech at Middle Georgia College. He was the head tennis coach for the women’s team. He went to nationals both years and his team was ranked #6 in the nation. In fall of 2000 he had the #1 doubles team and the #2 singles player for 2 year colleges. They qualified and played in the Rolex Small College Championships (D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO) in Memphis. In the Junior College division his team took second in singles and first in doubles. All the first place double teams played each other. We beat the D3 winner, but eventually lost to BYU-Hawaii (D2) in the final 2-6, 3-6. It was BYU’s third title in a row. Three of Bobs college players went on full ride tennis scholarships to 4 year universities and completed their degrees and advanced degrees. Bob has coached at Kino Jr. High for a season and at Westwood for 2 seasons. Bobs son, Josh played #1 singles and #1 double for Westwood 9th – 12th grade (2005 – 2009).
Bobs priorities in coaching are #1 family, #2 school, #3 tennis. His coaching values are sportsmanship, having fun and physical conditioning. He is married to Julie from California and they have 4 children.
